Hardening WordPress - The St. Louis WordPress Meetup

Hardening WordPress has very little to do with concrete or metallurgy and everything to do with making your site secure from hackers and spammers. We'll talk about some best practices and tools that will make your site more secure and give you a little more piece of mind. To get a head start, check out the Codex entry on Hardening WordPress.

Note 1: Gregory Ray has graciously volunteered to host the September Meetup. Thanks Gregory!

Note 2: We're starting a little later this month. Folks said rushing to the meetup after work was a bit of a pain. I hope this means more folks can make it out - like you!

Reminder: We're now meeting at Lab1500, a brilliant co-working space located on Washington Ave.

Lab1500 is located at:

1500 Washington Ave., Suite 100
St. Louis, MO 63103

The entrance is on 15th Street and we'll be on the ground floor. Parking is on the street and the meters stop running at 7pm.

Agenda

Since many folks attend with questions in-hand we want to make it easier for them to get answers. Instead of making people wait till the end of the evening to ask their questions, we're going to dedicate the first 30 minutes of the evening to questions and conversation.

Roughly:

6:30pm to 7:00pm - Question & Answer time. Come to help others, ask questions, and socialize before the main event.

7pm to 7:15pm - Introductions and housekeeping.

7:15pm to 8:30pm - Main topic of the evening and presentations.

Thanks for all the feedback! As promised, here is a copy of my annotated outline (with resource links) - http://dotgray.com/WPMU/1409/notes.pdf - and a reduced-size version of the slides - http://dotgray.com/WPMU/1409/slides-sm.pdf

Gregory's delivery, content, and prezzie were both interesting, well executed, and surprisingly entertaining (always give them more).

This was a first class seminar on a subject that scares everyone. If you are in the computer world in any capacity, you need to have some awareness and knowledge of this dark side (hackers (the evil ones), identity thieves, viral perpetrators ...etc). Gregory laid out a path from history, to solutions, as well as were to dig deeper in the subject matter...

    First Class! Thanks

Glad to read that Greg plans to post his speaking notes. I'm looking forward to gleaning any nuggets of wisdom and knowledge I might have missed. I'm sure it was a useful and informative presentation as usual. See you all in November when I'm free again.

Gregory, you did a great job. Your presentation was concise, thorough… and very informative. I get a lot out of this Meetup group.

If it's any consolation for those who can't make it tonight (and reassurance for those who can), I can now attest that there will be notes and/or slides from tonight's talk posted soon after.

So disappointed I'm unable to attend this month. Sounds like a great topic. I hope Greg posts his slides (and notes) on the STL WP site. Enjoy, everyone!

I'm in town until 9/3, but back in CA by then. Unless Bob Barker will let me sit in his phone, or laptop, via FaceTime ...

Mary- I may be in Cleveland for the Content Marketing Mindmeld... if I am in StL you're on.... In other news- I saw your post re graphic for WordCamp StL... I just want to send you 2cents on the look (I think we need to show those flyover folks that we can hold our own when it comes to current design)

Heheheh - Agreed. Vegas and LA have rather sophisticated looks - maybe it's time to be sophisticated ourselves.

That's a really good topic, congrats!

This is exactly the type of information I'm interested in. Unfortunately, I can't make it to this one. Hopefully you'll have some notes to share afterwards.
