Architecture and Interior Design Fika Meetup (Tuesday)
Details
The topic of this meeting is:
Part 2: Postmodernism or "less is bore"
Emerging in the 1960s and 70s, postmodernism rejected modernism's strict rules and "less is more" philosophy, embracing ornamentation, humor, and historical references instead. It celebrates complexity, cultural meaning, and the idea that design can be playful, contradictory, and fun rather than universally austere.
Is the real purpose of a building to work efficiently and function well, or should it also communicate meaning, culture, and make people feel something?
Can you mix different architectural styles in one building without it looking messy or confusing? Where's the line?
Is "bad taste" or tacky design ever okay, or should designers always have refined taste?
Can postmodern design with lots of decoration and materials be sustainable?
Check: Memphis Design - embodied "less is bore"—they threw out the modernist rulebook and said design should be fun, colorful, and deliberately a little tacky.
