HashiCorp User Group: Infra as Code and Beyond
Details
Join us for another exciting meetup of the Hashicorp User Group!
In this meetup, we will be talking about all things Hashicorp, including infra as code (Terraform), and Beyond (Vault)!
We will have a mix of presentations and demos, so you can learn about popular Hashicorp products and features, and see how they can be used to solve real-world problems.
Keep an eye on our screens as well! We are going to show you all the changes and updates from Hashiconf while you are waiting for the sessions to begin, so you can be up to date in no time!
Agenda:
17.30 - Doors open
18.00 - Terraform how-not-to
18.30 - Preparing for disaster before it finds you - a Vault demo
19.00 - Networking, food, drinks
Sessions:
Terraform how-not-to by Ábel Szabó (Cloud Architect at Devoteam)
A selected few from my real stories/lessons learned which I bring as an example for Terraform Academy courses. We will go through scenarios which can show why is it important to set upper bound version constraints as well, or how to lose disaster recovery capabilities by progressing step-by-step with your infra. I’ll tell you about my favourite mistakes, so you don’t need to make them!
Preparing for disaster before it finds you - a Vault demo by Fredrik Warfvinge (Tech Lead DevOps Engineer at Iver Accelerate)
Vault is an amazing tool, but it can be quite scary to deal with. What do you do when your tier-0 critical application misbehaves? What to do if you end up in the dreaded split-brain scenario while using Raft as the storage backend? Live demo based on a real-life customer scenario.
The talk will go over:
- What is Vault and what problems does it solve?
- Why use multiple nodes in a cluster?
- What can happen if I don't?
- How to solve the problem going forward.
Whether you're a seasoned Hashicorp user or just getting started, we hope to see you there!
