SICC Screening #41 – When the Light Breaks @ Bio Zita

Details

What happens in the hours after everything falls apart? On Monday 9th June, we return to Bio Zita for a screening of the Icelandic film "When the Light Breaks"—an intimate, emotionally raw story that unfolds in the hours after sudden loss. Premiered to acclaim at Cannes last year and making its way through international festivals ever since, this is the first time this quietly powerful film will be shown with English subtitles in Stockholm.
As always, we’ll gather in Zita’s bar after the film to meet each other and mingle.

About the Film:
On the morning of Christmas Eve in Reykjavik, Una, a young art student, wakes to the unthinkable: her boyfriend Diddi has been killed in a car accident. But there’s something else—something no one else knows. Diddi was also in a relationship with another woman. As messages and memories begin to collide, Una finds herself in a space between love, betrayal, and the overwhelming weight of grief.

Told in near real-time over the course of a single day, When the Light Breaks captures that suspended moment when time seems to stop, and reality is too much to process. It’s a striking feature debut from Rúnar Rúnarsson, marked by restrained performances, icy cinematography, and a deep empathy for characters navigating silence, secrets, and sorrow.
