Open discussion "How do we live in individualistic society?"
Details
Hello Everyone!
We live in one of the most individualistic societies in the world, where self-realization is often seen as the highest goal. We are encouraged to choose our own path, express our uniqueness, and build a life around personal interests and ambitions.
There is an abundance of lifestyles, communities, and activities to explore, and economic freedom has brought unprecedented wealth by allowing individual talents to flourish.
However, this freedom also carries a hidden weight. People are increasingly detached from stable structures such as long-term jobs, strong communities, shared traditions, or clear social roles. While this offers flexibility and choice, it also shifts responsibility onto the individual. Problems like insecurity, failure, or unemployment are no longer seen as collective issues, but as personal shortcomings.
This type of hyper-individualism often produces anxiety rather than true autonomy. Life becomes a constant project of self-management: adapting, improving, and staying competitive in changing markets of work, relationships, and identity. Social bonds grow weaker and more temporary, and commitment is treated as a risk rather than a foundation.
This raises broader questions. As shared values and collective identities fade, what holds society together? Can a society function well without strong shared values or collective identities? If not, what could realistically replace them today? Are rising loneliness and mental health struggles connected to this hyper-individualized way of living? Is there a middle ground where personal freedom and collective responsibility can coexist, or does the loss of shared belonging leave a void that must eventually be filled?
Join us on Sunday afternoon for an open discussion, where we’ll explore these questions from different perspectives and experiences.
looking forward to seeing you all:)
