APEX and advanced forms usage

What is advanced is - of course - in the eye of the beholder. But let's take a standard APEX form out for a spin. Just setting it up and getting it to load in a record to be updated is vanilla usage.
Let's look at two ways to do more with it.
First we'll look at having the form page through records belonging to the same parent record. Getting a form with previous and next buttons as well as a "1 of 5" indicator opens up some new use cases. It is not hard to configure and we will do it without adding any extra code to support it. It is however not documented. You have probably seen it on pages generated through Oracle "create report and form" widget. Setting up your own and understanding how to get it to do what you want is harder.
Then we'll turn our attention to using returning data from a form to the invoking page. It requires being able to detect that the page is closed as well as setting up what should be returned and grab it on the invoking page when the modal page is closed.
