Winterviken +info:
Until the 1980s, the area was dominated by Alfred Nobel’s industrial facilities. Today, Vinterviken is a public park and green oasis.
You’ll find a sculpture trail, open lawns, walking paths with seating, urban gardens, and a cozy café. Several historic buildings remain, including the old sulfuric acid factory from 1891 — now home to an exhibition hall and restaurant.
Vinterviken’s name dates back to the 17th century, but it’s best known for Nobel’s 19th-century experiments with explosives, including the invention of dynamite in 1866.
The City of Stockholm took over the land in the 1970s. It was heavily polluted, but several clean-up efforts — the latest in 2019 — have helped restore it as a cultural and recreational space.
