"I love what I do, but I'm spread way too thin"
What we learned from the 2023 Content Design & UX Writing Community Survey
In partnership with Active Voice
NB: Registration for this event should be done through EventBrite. You can register through Meetup, but you won't receive the follow-up or the recording (yes, this will be recorded!). If you make a mistake and register using this link and not EventBrite, don't panic! We'll send a reminder before the event.
Earlier this year, Jane Ruffino launched a survey for people working in UX content. Her goal: to understand how responsibilities, titles, team structures, and more have shifted over the past few years—and what's keeping people up at night right now.
The response was overwhelming. More than 240 people from around the world shared their stories and perspectives—revealing deep excitement at how this field has grown, ongoing frustrations with how content workers are treated, and new fears of AI and layoffs wreaking havoc on the field.
- “I made the switch from instructional design fully into UX and doubled my salary!” —Content designer
- “Just hire more of us. We can juggle projects but let us focus, and optimize.” —Content lead
- “With all the recent layoffs, I worry about how many teams are going back to square one.” —Principal content designer
Join us on June 29 as we reveal the biggest themes Jane and a team of volunteers found in the data—and what it means for the humans who make up this field. You’ll learn:
- What works and what doesn’t about different team and reporting structures
- Insights into content folks’ titles, career paths, and day-to-day work lives
- The big wins that are keeping people energized right now
- What’s broken about recruiting and how we can fix it
- What people most want to see change in their organizations and in the content field
Before we wrap, we’ll also lead breakout conversations to reflect on these results—so we can leave feeling more prepared to face today’s challenges, and build a more sustainable and humane future for everyone who works with content.
By registering for an event, you agree to comply with our event code of conduct.
This event will be recorded and shared with all registered attendees afterward.

This is our first joint event. We understand it's confusing to have both a Meetup and an EventBrite page. We're lucky to be partnering with Active Voice, who is providing the platform, recording, and lots of organizational energy. This clunky signup situation was the best way to open it to our whole community, many of whom took the time to share their thoughts, experiences, hopes, and worries in the survey.
You'll find the full description, speaker bios, and the registration link on the EventBrite page. Again, please register there.
