Madeleine Schönemann:
Hear me - 5 keys to becoming a better listener

While listening might sound easy, the truth is that many of us fail by interrupting, judging, or trying to solve a problem that the person doesn’t even want a solution for. In this talk, you will learn five simple principles and practices to become a great listener. Apply these and notice how you become a better team member, partner, and friend, and how you can improve any relationship in your life.

Madeleine is a software developer and scrum master who values teamwork and interpersonal skills. She works as a consultant at 13|37 where, apart from coding, she is the leader of the company's competence development of interpersonal skills. Madeleine is also the co-host of the podcast "Developers! mer än bara kod" where she, together with her co-host Sofia, talks about life as a software developer. When Madeleine is not coding you usually find her at the gym lifting heavy weights or cooking a homecooked meal for friends and family to enjoy.

Ruslan Fomkin:
Cassandra, accessing it and Astra DB from C++

Cassandra is a NoSQL distributed database with unlimited scalability. Can it be used from C++? Before demonstrating how to access Cassandra from C++ I will explain the basics of Cassandra and its key advantages and tradeoffs. In addition to demonstrating a C++ program against local installation of Apache Cassandra I will demonstrate calling a cloud database Astra DB using the same C++ driver. Astra DB is a cloud-native serverless database built on Cassandra by DataStax.

Ruslan Fomkin is a database engineer and has worked with database internals for about 20 years. He started his journey into databases with his PhD study at Uppsala University. Then he has been helping to develop databases in several startups: Starcounter, Timescale, and DataStax.
