0x3A: Orthodox C++ - a ship with convention, and Efficiency Without Illusions
Details
Welcome to our 58th Meetup, the final one for 2025!
We’re closing the year with a great program and a special guest from outside Stockholm.
A big thank you to Prevas AB for hosting the evening!
The program:
- Intro, news, and quiz
- Harald: Orthodox C++, The Vasa has shipped, but who broke the contract
- Casual mingling and networking with refreshments 🍕🥤🤝
- Filipe: Efficiency Without Illusions: LLM-Assisted C++ Design & Refactoring (Gains, Limits, and Safety Rails)
Door open 17:30, the program starts at 18:00
The program in detail:
Harald Achit: Orthodox C++, The Vasa has shipped, but who broke the contract
Observations and reflections about the latest stories and 🎭 in the C++ world
Filipe Mulonde: Efficiency Without Illusions: LLM-Assisted C++ Design & Refactoring (Gains, Limits, and Safety Rails)
LLMs can speed up C++ design and refactoring—but only when you work with their constraints. This talk maps the real efficiency curve: where models accelerate work (API reshaping, mechanical edits, migration playbooks, doc/test scaffolding) and where they slow you down (non-local invariants, concurrency/memory model, UB traps, ABI stability, perf-critical paths). We’ll dig into hard limits—context windows, long-range dependencies across large repos, latency and rate limits, token costs, reproducibility—and show practical mitigations.
Väl mött! 🎉
