Covid-19 Analysis During the Pandemic - An Insider Story
Max Gordon is an orthopaedic surgeon at Danderyd University Hospital and docent at Karolinska Institutet. He is also one of the organizers of the Stockholm R User Group and has recently been nominated for the Swedish AI Person of the Year 2023. You might have seen him in the news talking about AI and its potential in medicinal practice. If this isn't enough he is also the author of several popular R packages.
During the pandemic Max worked hands on analysing data related to Covid-19. In this meetup Max will discuss a variety of topics related to the Covid-19 pandemic, including early mortality analyses using open datasets, resource allocation strategies based on hospital data, and an in-depth look at the remarkable COMMUNITY study. The COMMUNITY study has been a major influence in Swedish pandemic research and has been published in esteemed journals like NEJM and Lancet. It has also contributed to vaccination planning and WHO's pandemic surveillance efforts.
During the talk, we will dive into both the motivations behind these analyses and the technical details. Expect a healthy dose of tidyverse and ggplot throughout the presentation. We will also explore data management topics such as normalization vs data exploration, as well as strategies used over time to manage a growing, evolving dataset.
Welcome!
