Welcome to Stockpot's third meeting!

Ever wondered how to go from “I want to invest” to actually owning your first share? In this month’s meeting, we’ll walk step-by-step through opening a brokerage account and placing your first stock trade, using Fidelity as our example. This session will be taught by Zoë Oketch, a local financial analyst and cool person.

We’ll cover:

• What you need before you open an account (documents, funding, and setup tips)
• Navigating Fidelity’s platform to create your account
• Understanding basic account types (individual, retirement, etc.)
• How to research and select a stock to purchase
• Placing your first buy order and what those order types actually mean
• Next steps after your purchase (tracking performance, dividends, and more)

Whether you’ve never invested before or just want a refresher on the process, this will be a hands-on, beginner-friendly session. Bring your laptop or device if you want to follow along in real time, or simply take notes and explore later.

We'll meet in the Large Community Room 2A, which is the only room upstairs.

Together, we’ll explore different types of side hustles, share ideas in small groups, and map out simple first steps you can take. You’ll leave with a clearer plan, fresh inspiration, and support from a community that’s learning and growing right alongside you.

What to expect:

• A short, beginner-friendly overview of side hustles: what works, what to avoid, and where to start.
• Small group brainstorming to help you discover ideas based on your skills and resources.
• A hands-on activity where you’ll create your own “Side Hustle Starter Map.”
• Space to connect with others who are also figuring out their next money move.

We'll meet at the North Portland Library in the Large Community Room 2A, which is the only room upstairs. We’re also working to bring in a local entrepreneur to share their story and tips — stay tuned!
