Virtue and the Stoic Life: An Ancient Guide to Character and Resilience

Details

Meetup – Waynesboro, VA
Join us for Stoic Social, where good conversation and great pastries meet ancient wisdom. Whether you’re new to Stoicism or already walking the path of reason, this is a space to reflect, connect, and share insights in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

🗣️ Conversation Starter:
This session, we’ll dive into virtue ethics — the ancient view that a good life is one guided by character rather than consequences or rules.

• Socrates taught that virtue is knowledge, and that no one does wrong knowingly.
• Aristotle believed virtue was a mean between excess and deficiency, cultivated through habit and guided by reason.
• The Stoics took it further, insisting that virtue is the only true good, and that everything else — health, wealth, reputation — is indifferent.

We’ll reflect on the four cardinal virtues of wisdom, justice, courage, and moderation, and explore how they help us live with integrity, resilience, and purpose today.

👥 What to Expect:
• Open, guided discussion and Q&A on Stoic philosophy
• No reading or prep required — just bring curiosity
• Meet thoughtful people who enjoy meaningful conversation

🥯 Cost: $5
Includes a variety of delicious Panera pastries, new connections, and a little practical wisdom. (Beverages not included.)

📍 Location Details:
