Story Structure Seminar: Dramatic Choices

Story Structure seminars provide in-depth content to empower the fiction writer to make more specific choices before writing begins with the goal of making your story COMPELLING. Attendees who wish a copy of the handout must bring a thumb drive or USB drive to the meeting. Handouts will be in PDF format only to save copying expense. We may enter the conference room no sooner that 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. This is a paid for event; refunds are only available if the event is cancelled. If you RSVP but do not attend, we do not refund your ticket price. Payment is made through the Meetup WePay provider. The seminar must have a minimum of five attendees plus host.

Dramatic choices are to a story what style is to PowerPoint. Imagine a black and white presentation having color and themes applied. Fiction also has a presentation layer. Whereas plot is what happens in your story, the dramatic choice is how the story is presented to the reader. Thrust-Setback, for instance, will show the story like a sword fight, where one person is trying to destroy the other. Wellsprings will focus on emotion, bringing a great deal of feeling and imagery.
