Curb Daylighting & Hangout: Chalking the Curb RED - Location TBD
Location not specified yetTactical Urbanism Action Day
When: 3rd Saturday of the month, 10 AM - 12 PM
Where: Location TBD
Who: Anyone who wants to take part
How: Participants will be put in groups of 2-5 and assigned a location. Each group will receive flyers and large red chalk to "daylight" 1–3 intersections. Materials will be picked up from a central coordination point.Participants are encouraged to purchase and bring red sidewalk chalk as a donation to our efforts. Additionally we would appreciate red chalk powder or a [roller](QKDS Refillable Paint Roller, DIY... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DMD77P8D?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) to help make chalk application easier.
The Strong Towns Approach to Problem Solving includes regularly taking the smallest action toward building community. Daylighting is a critical step towards making neighborhoods walkable and safe but the city can't paint the curbs red fast enough to make every intersection safe. It will take them years. This is a hands-on, community-powered event focused on daylighting intersections in walkable neighborhoods to increase visibility and pedestrian safety—especially with California’s AB413 daylighting law now in effect.
Groups document their work and send photos via the post event survey to be sent to all participants. That’s it—quick, impactful, and 100% community-led.
After: Participants are invited to come back to our starting point after to hang out, discuss, and celebrate taking meaningful direct action. This is a low-key, high-impact action. The goal is to make streets safer through visibility and community engagement. We’ll share photos afterward to celebrate the work.
Please only RSVP if you're committed to attending—our coordination depends on reliable participation.
We'll follow up with corridor/intersection assignments once we have enough volunteers signed up.

Pies in the Park
Nobel Community Park, 8810 Judicial Dr, San Diego, CA 92122, San Diego, CA, USIt's 3/14, so we're celebrating Pi(e) Day with Pies in the Park!
Join us for a lunchtime picnic and conversation with Strong Towns San Diego. This informal gathering is a chance to connect with others who care about building a more resilient and financially sustainable city.
This will be a potluck style event - bring your favorite round/circle shaped food (pie, pizza, quiche, donuts, cookies, etc) to share with the group. We will provide the plates, napkins, and utensils for attendees.
We’ll discuss ideas, share experiences, and explore small, incremental actions we can take to make San Diego stronger. Group leaders will share updates and plans for the future, and everyone is welcome to share updates from other boards, organizations, non-profits, or jobs.
Whether you're new to the Strong Towns movement or a seasoned advocate, this is a welcoming space to learn, exchange ideas, and build community. Start your day with inspiring discussions and practical ideas for positive local change!
