Neighborhood Homes for All of Us: In the Real World
An open house and working conversation hosted by Strong Towns San Diego and Murray Lampert Design, Build, Remodel
If you work in, advocate for, or make decisions about housing in San Diego, this event is for you.
We're hosting an open house at a newly completed multigenerational fourplex on Juan Street in Old Town. Four households on one existing parcel, built for a family from this neighborhood, with no variances and no special permits. This is what fundamentally affordable housing looks like: not subsidized, affordable by what it is.
San Diego has an initiative to build more of this housing. The question worth asking is whether the city has the procedural capacity to actually deliver on that promise. We've invited city council members and staff, planning and development officials, housing advocates, and the Neighborhood Homes for All of Us team to walk the site, meet the builder, and have a frank conversation: what is working today, and what procedural changes would make more of this housing reliably buildable at scale.
Come see it in person. Hear directly from the builder. Ask hard questions.
