Book Review and Discussion: THE COLOR OF LAW
Details
A book review and discussion led by Linda Simonetti Odhner with Strong Towns Bucks-Mont PA.
Richard Rothstein's 2017 book "The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America" is packed with detailed information about the US government's active support and enforcement of housing segregation throughout most of the 20th century, and how official policies shaped the housing landscape we see today. Rothstein makes clear that segregationist sentiment was enshrined into law (de jure segregation) far more than is currently acknowledged in our historical narrative, and thus warrants government remedies. The focus of the book may be narrow, but it has broad implications for the state of neighborhoods and racial relations today.
Bring your questions, observations and concerns. You don't have to read the book. There will be refreshments!
