Portrait Drawing Workshop

Details

This portraiture class is for beginners to intermediate levels. We will work in charcoal on newsprint (provided). Begin by practicing various forms of Mark Making Techniques. Fill up an empty page and get more familiar with the supplies. Then we will wipe it all off draw portraits on toned paper. It's a subtractive technique in which artists wipe out (or erase) the light they see.

In this class, we will learn to see and explore the meditative aspects of drawing. I never really SEE anyone unless I slow down and draw them. Drawing calms my mind. In addition, this class will and equip you with the skills needed to create both expressive and accurate depictions of the people around you.

We will work from casts, and learn about mark-making, measuring, shading, and composition. I will guide you through the fundamentals of portraiture.

Although this class is perfect for complete beginners, all levels are encouraged to participate. You might just be feeling rusty and need to brush up on your skills.
