Title: Realizing smart monitoring with AI powered retrofit solutions
Short description: Drinking water consumption for many is still a black box today, with no insights whatsoever into the amount and purpose for which water is expended in households and commercially used buildings alike. However, suitable measuring equipment is usually already available in the form of water meters. Using a smart, AI-powered retrofit solution to realize real-time monitoring yields great benefits: Not only can resources like water be used more efficiently and sustainably through highly available, high resolution consumption data, the impact of burst pipes and leakages is reduced significantly as well, through early warning. Developing an AI-powered IoT edge device to digitize analog meters, like the typical water meters used in Germany, poses some interesting challenges, some of which will be discussed in the presentation.
