Styria.AI Tech Talks #2

We're excited to announce the second Styria.AI tech talk. This time we've decided to share our expertise from both machine learning and backend services. In the first talk, Bartol's going to talk about a state-of-the-art machine learning model for automatic object detection. In the later, Dominik will introduce you with the internals of our similarity search system.

The Meetup will take place in HUB385 on Tuesday, January 29th.

Automatic Object Detection by Bartol Freskura
Google Open Images dataset is the largest of its kind, with more varied and complex bounding-box annotations spanning 500 classes. Google used the dataset to organize the Open Images challenge on Kaggle, the famous online hub for hosting Data Science competitions. Our task was to build the best performing algorithm for automatic object detection, pushing the field of machine vision even further. Our solution which encompasses state-of-the-art deep learning algorithms ranked our team 66th out of 454 highly competitive teams from throughout the world and was one of the few approaches presented at the European Conference on Computer Vision 2018 in Munich.

Bartol is a data scientist at Styria.AI mainly focused onto computer vision algorithms. Apart from working at Styria.AI, he has tried his luck in the startup world where he was a Lead AI engineer, developing an autonomous drone using the most recent advancements in the object detection field.

A Similarity Search System by Dominik Safaric
The similarity search system enables finding similar objects such as images using a combination of machine learning models. In this talk, we'll describe the evolution of system, challenges faced, mistakes made and general internals of system used by millions of users worldwide.

Dominik is a software engineer at Styria.AI, where he works on several high throughput machine learning based and distributed systems.
