Styria.AI Tech Talks #3

We're thrilled to announce the third edition of the Styria.AI Tech Talks. This time we'll share our experience about building a machine learning based personalization platform of the most visited Croatian news portal 24sata.

In the first talk, Roman will deep dive into the infrastructure behind such a load intensive platform. In the later, Petra will introduce you with the machine learning models in terms of feature selection and architecture.

The meetup will take place in HUB385 on Thursday, June 6th.

A personalization platform infrastructure, Roman Kosanovic
In this talk, we'll describe our highly scalable and fault tolerant personalization infrastructure. Throughout the talk, we'll describe the requirements of such a load intensive infrastructure, including load-based auto-scaling EC2 spot instances, low latency and fault tolerance. We'll share with you our journey to AWS Serverless and a managed Kubernetes EKS utilizing cheap EC2 spot instances and GPUs.

Roman is a DevOps engineer at Styria AI where he works on designing and developing infrastructure underlying the machine learning based and distributed systems.

Personalization models, Petra Rebernjak
Deep dive into the magic behind our personalization of news platform. We'll show you why we decided to go with deep neural network over traditional collaborative filtering approach, what are the different types of features we use, how we optimized inference time, and more. Find out how we overcame many challenges to ensure that this powerful and scalable model serves personalized feed to more than a million users per day.

Petra is a data engineer in Styria.AI, where she works on fast, scalable and resilient data pipelines that serve and exploit machine learning systems. She is a former Google intern, deep learning enthusiast and Shiba Inu pup owner.
