#1: Data Privacy

Public group

Data privacy is an important and often an overlooked subject in technology. With the rise of devices such as Amazon Ring, the Cambridge Analytica scandal and facial recognition software being rolled out by the Metropolitan police, it is more relevant than ever.

There will be lightning talks (speakers TBC) and then plenty of time to discuss the topics raised and meet fellow attendees.

If you would like to give a lightning talk, please get in touch.

There is step-free access and an accessible toilet at the venue.

Code of conduct

we want to be inclusive; do not engage in homophobic, racist, transphobic, ableist, sexist, or otherwise exclusionary behaviour. don’t make exclusionary jokes. don’t make them "ironically".

don’t harass people. unconsented physical contact or sexual attention is harassment. dressing or acting in a certain way is not consent.

aggression and elitism are unwelcome here

although we may sometimes meet in a pub, there is no expectation or pressure to drink alcohol. don’t question anyone’s choice of drink

ask about gender, don't assume. if you get it wrong, apologise, and use what their pronouns.

we think intersectional feminism is a good thing. discussion of how to make tech more inclusive is welcome. claims that this "has gone too far" isn’t.

feel free to contact us or use your favourite search engine to understand the terms and concepts used above. being a good ally and person is critical.
