Tucked away along the slopes of the Magaliesberg Mountains, the Majakaneng Hiking Trail offers a challenging yet rewarding experience for avid hikers. Starting in the rural village of Majakaneng, the trail takes you through untouched bushveld, steep rocky climbs, and panoramic ridgeline views of the valley and surrounding plains.
The trail is a popular choice for those seeking a blend of physical challenge, cultural immersion, and natural beauty. Along the route, hikers encounter local shepherds, traditional homesteads, and have the chance to learn about the rich cultural heritage of the Bakgatla people. The ascent is tough, but the stunning views from the top of the Magaliesberg escarpment make it worthwhile.
The trail is not officially marked, so it’s best done with a guide or someone familiar with the route.

⭐ Getting to the entrance is a little tricky through the town of Majakaneng. Google maps doesn't actually take you to the trail so look out for signs in the town. The local residents also are used to people getting lost and are very helpful in showing which road to get onto.
