In this course, we will be covering more advanced topics in JavaScript and Web Development in general. We will focus primarily on the React library, given its relevance to modern programming and extensive support from the team at Facebook. React is a library that is extremely lightweight and performant in today’s mobile world, and it fairly easy to learn with an introductory level of knowledge of vanilla JavaScript.

This is a FREE 5 week course every Monday from May 15th to June 19th from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. Meter parking is free after 6pm in front of the school.

If only 1 child is attending just register for yourself, if you have multiple children please add a +1 per child after the first child.

Please sign up and tell us the name and age of your child(ren) attending.

If you sign up and later find out your child cannot attend, please let us know immediately, so that your RSVP can be changed and opened up for other students.

Please read the FAQs below as they may answer your questions. For additional questions, please contact our Operations Assistant Katherine Trammell ( at [masked].

What ages are the classes open to?
We welcome all kids ages 13-17. Adults need to accompany the child if they are 16 years of age or younger.

What kind of computer will the students need?
It is strongly recommended that students use an Apple Computer or a partitioned drive that utilizes the most recent version of OS X for consistency and to ease debugging and environmental issues, but it is not required. Please make sure that the laptop is in good working shape so we don't spend the class trying to fix computers when we can be learning.

Any programs/software that need to be installed on the computer?
Students are required to have a working Text Editor (preferably Atom or Sublime), an updated Chrome Web Browser, the latest installation of Node.js, NPM (Node Package Manager), and Surge.

What is the cost of the class?

FREE. The Iron Yard ( believes strongly that programming must be accessible at all ages, and kids classes are one way we inch toward making that belief a reality.

What do students need to know before taking the class?

Students for this course should be familiar with HTML, CSS and have a basic understanding of programming concepts and JavaScript in particular. By the end of this course, students will be able to create simple Single Page Applications that can be published to the web via free hosting services using the many of the web’s most cutting edge tools.
