Becoming an A11y: Creating with Accessibility in mind
by Justin Hurt (@justincasithurt (https://twitter.com/justincasithurt))
As designers and developers it's easy to fall into a trap of thinking that all users approach the web with the same capabilities. Be it permanent, temporary, or just situational, we can all expect to be faced with an impairment or disability at some point in our lives.
Creating an accessible web can seem like a daunting task to complete, and to some can seem like the difference between creating an enjoyable experience or checking the 'Accessible' box, but Accessible and Enjoyable do not have to be a this or that relationship.
During this talk we'll clear up some of the misconceptions about Web Accessibility, cover some practical Accessibility techniques, and by the end you'll have a better idea of how to accomplish Accessibility one step at a time.
Designing and Developing for Universal Access is a smart business decision. Accessibility isn't just about providing a great experience for the disabled, an accessible application provides a great experience for everyone.
