Should Designers Code? & Should Founders Code?

Should Designers Code? by Taylor Cox (@TaylorACox_)

In an attempt to bring value to the age-old debate and to expand my skill set in the tech industry, I spent the past year transitioning from the title of graphic designer to front-end developer. At this event, I will discuss my journey, my time spent at a coding bootcamp (The Iron Yard), and the positives and negatives of having a background in design as a developer.

Taylor is a digital designer turned front-end developer and recent graduate of The Iron Yard TSP. She currently serves as the Interactive Designer at Raymond James while balancing freelance design and UI/UX projects and continues learning in ReactJS. Her expertise ranges from CSS animations and interactive user interfaces to flawlessly delivered dad jokes.

Should Founders Code? by Will Whatley (@wwwhatley1)

I embarked on my own personal journey of learning development in part due to frustrations I faced searching for developers. In this talk, I will discuss the common challenges founders face when deciding to learn modern web development and overcoming the difficulties of building the infrastructure required to launch a successful idea.

William is a co-founder and developer for the over the top (OTT) media distribution platform, Subchannel. His main focus is assembling teams of highly functioning individuals and cultivating an immersive and dynamic company culture that follows the fundamental vision of Subchannel. William’s passions include giving back to the community, contributing towards sustainable solutions, learning and developing in React.JS, and morally creative problem solving.
