I am going to go on an approximately 3+- mile walk to get some fresh (steamy) air, and some time in nature and along the Hillsborough River.
First will be the Buteo Trail, then a short section of Heartbreak Ridge, on down to the scenic overlook and back up via one of my local faves, the Bald Cypress Trail.
Expect a slower paced walk, taking time to enjoy our beautiful local protected and preserved county park trails
Bring water, bug spray, proper footwear, whatever personal items you need.
There is a $2.00 day use fee, restrooms and water available.

NO DOGS permitted on this hike.

Day of event April 813-486-3713

Let's cycle the Withlacoochee State Trail. This will be 15 miles out and back for a total of 30 miles approximately.

We will meet at Owensboro Trailhead at 8:30 am. and hit the trail as soon as we can. The trailhead has no facilities. We will ride north on the Withlacoochee State Trail, and climb the bridge over SR50 (Cortez) at <5 miles we will reach the Ridge Manor Trailhead and make a stop for those who need to use the facilities. There is a water bottle filler here as well. We will continue riding until we reach the intersection of the Good Neighbor Trail and take another short break before continuing north staying on the WST until we reach Lake Lindsey Rd. This will be our turnaround (15 miles). We will then ride back south until we find our first park bench and take our break. After the break, we will continue our ride south until we get back to the Owensboro trailhead.

The most important thing to remember on this ride… break when YOU need it! Do not be intimidated by other riders. We are all different, and we all react differently. Take short breaks more often instead of pushing yourself to exhaustion. Set yourself up for success! If at any point you feel like you have had enough, it is no problem to turn around or wait until we (the group) start our return. If you get to the 10-mile point (Good Neighbor & WST intersection) and would prefer not to go any further (the additional 10 miles) take your break here and either wait for the group to come back or start riding back to the Owensboro trailhead. Just remember you will be on your own.

This section has a few small road crossings. But please check for oncoming traffic before crossing. One of the road crossings has a bit of a curve, so it's hard to see, so be aware.

Helmets are required! Do not forget your helmet. Please come prepared and ready to ride. All bicycles and riders are welcome. But you must be able to complete 30+ miles. Additionally, your bicycle must be in good working order, tires inflated to the required tire pressure before you arrive. Tires lose tire pressure. Do NOT count on the air pressure. Check your air pressure before arriving at the trailhead.
There is no water on the trail, only at Ridge Manor trailhead. Bring water, snacks, and fuel. If you do not have water with you, you will not be riding with the group. Water is a requirement!

Bike must be ready to ride. Tires inflated before we start, Water is required, You do not have to be the fastest, you just need to be able to finish the ride.

WARNING! We will be experiencing summer temperatures and humidity. There is a risk of heat stroke and exhaustion. Please do not take this lightly. You must bring a minimum of 1 liter/quart of hydration AND be in adequate physical condition to do this. If you have medical conditions that may affect your ability to safely complete this hike, please do not take the risk.

Who wants to go on a shady summer hike? Actual route TBD but this will be a loop hike about 90% under tree canopy. This area is one of my year round faves in the Lower Hillsborough Wilderness Area.

• We will be on single track, dual use (hike/bike) trail. We will review bike etiquette at the beginning of the hike.
