Let's go loopy at Wekiwa Springs SP - 6 mile hike in lots of sun with sugar sand
Details
While at Camp Joy, wouldn't it be great to learn what is in the area? I, for one, have never been to CJ or WSSP but I'll do my due diligence so I can lead you on a fun hike during our camping kick-off weekend. We'll do the Wekiwa Springs Volksmarch Trail (WSVT) in Wekiwa Springs State Park on the afternoon of November 8.
The following description, brought to you by AllTrails:
The WSVT guides visitors through a richly forested route, marked by orange blazes, and passes by a scenic lake. This trail offers an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the area's woodlands and water features. Part of this trail runs along the Florida Trail, providing a connection to a larger network of paths.
Things to know:
- It's a great loop/trail with a bit of up and down for Florida. You can expect 190 feet of elevation.
- Bring at least 2 liters of water because at least 70% of the trail is exposed sandhill scrub. That means SUGAR SAND, maybe in abundance.
- Make sure to reserve your limited parking online in advance. DO IT NOW IF YOU REALLY WANT TO GO: https://www.floridastateparks.org/learn/day-use-entry-reservation-information.
- The reason we are not going first thing in the a.m. is because I've read about really long lines to get in.
- Be Bear Aware: https://www.floridastateparks.org/sites/default/files/media/file/Bear%20Awareness_0.pdf
- This state park is 13 minutes away from Camp Joy.
- I will let you know where to meet closer to the date.
For this hike, you will need at least 2-3 liters of water, snacks, bug/tick spray, sunscreen, a hat, hiking boots (no sandals) and anything else you deem necessary for your comfort. For the snack break, you might want to bring a ground cloth to sit on.
My number on the day of the hike is 813-713-2492 though that all depends on reception ;).
I am asking that everyone signs up (no guests) so everyone can agree to the waiver and agree to the following conditions:
