Details
Nature Gravel Cycling Lake Apopka – 16 Miles Max. (NO Skinny Tires!)
From Camp Joy to Magnolia Park is between 12 – 14 miles depending on the route you choose. Please plan a 25-to-35-minute drive from camp to Magnolia Park.
We will cycle approximately 8 miles along Lake Apopka and turn around. These roads are heavily weathered and have quite a bit of pots holes, loose gravel, and some sand. Road bikes are not recommended for this ride. Most hybrids, mountain bikes, fat-tire, comfort and gravel bikes will be fine.
We will leave from Magnolia Park, take a short, paved walkway down to Lake Apopka gravel Trail and begin our ride. Part of the trail cyclist share the road with the Wildlife Drive, although the cars drive very slowly, you still need to watch to make sure they give you room to pass. They are also looking for wildlife sites so even the drivers can be distracted by a bird, alligator, snake, etc.
What you should expect on this ride:
· You should expect an entirely gravel road with water or marsh on both sides.
· You should also expect frequent stops to look at wildlife, take pictures and enjoy the beautiful lake views.
· You should expect a more casual ride
· You should expect that we might not actually get to the 8-mile turn-around, we might only do 6 miles and turn around
· You should expect slow moving vehicles on part of the trail
There are restrooms at the trailhead and there could be one portable toilet on the route. There is no potable water on the trail, so bring your own water and snacks to sustain your ride.
HELMETS ARE REQUIRED! Please do not ask me if you can ride without a helmet because I am going to say no.
Please bring your bike in working order and get ready to ride. All skill levels are welcome, but please be comfortable riding on hard packed roads and uneven surfaces.
I understand that bicycling involves certain risks which I am prepared to fully assume myself. I will follow all the traffic laws. I agree to waive all claims I may have against this meetup and host for damages or injuries sustained because of participation.
