EVENT IS FULL ⛺ Base Camp/Day Hike 🥾Along the Blue Ridge Pkwy🐻 Pisgah NF🌳
Details
EVENT IS FULL
Let's do it again! A week or so tent camping at Mt Pisgah Campground. As I did last year, I will lead 3 or 4 of my personal favorites. These hikes will range from 8 to 14 miles and all rated strenuous to very strenuous. There are plenty of options for going out on your own. I will have suggestions. We should hit peak wildflower bloom season.
I won't be arranging for any group accommodations. You will be pretty much on your own for all else.
Most sites are first come first serve. Arriving on Sunday May 31 makes getting a walk up site very likely. But reservations can be made though they are closed for the season now. Maybe it will be warm enough for a trip to Sliding Rock this year!
Assume most hikes to be strenuous to very strenuous. This involves not only elevation change, but rocky uneven terrain, slick/slippery rock faces, fording streams, overgrown trails. Some hikes will be in designated wilderness areas meaning no signage or trail blazes
Hiking in Western Carolina can be extremely challenging. Everyone must be fully prepped for all day hiking in the Carolina mountains. This means full contingency preparation to include emergency shelter (bivy or blanket), whistle, additional layers, fire starting, lighting, overnight food & water purification.
You must be in adequate physical condition that will ensure your ability to safely participate, as well as to not be an impairment to our group hikes due to the lack there of.
You will need to be camping with us as the next day schedule may not be decided till the end of the current day activity.
We are recreational outdoors club. We are not professional outfitters. We charge no fee for this event.
