🌴Ramblin' Off the Beaten Path🥾 Oak Ridge Tract@Lower Hills.Wilderness🐊
Details
Let's take a walk on the wild(er) side!
This will be for more experienced hikers who are comfortable in a minimally maintained wilderness environment.
I expect the total hike to be about 8 miles. That being said, the actual route we'll take will be determined as we go.
It is a beautiful area that featuring various ecosystems including stands of old growth oak and cabbage palm, as well as open palmetto savannah, & creek crossings (should be dry).
We'll take a spur trail that goes to a scenic spot on the Hillsborough River, directly across from Dead River Park.
This is a SWFWMD conservation tract. It is maintained to a lesser degree than the adjacent county parks down the road.
The trails are managed for equestrian users. We will be hiking some unmapped old roadbeds. There may be sections of tall grasses, Caesar Weed and other overgrowth. The trail tread will be extremely uneven in places.
There is no day use or parking fee. There are no restrooms or potable water. At the corner of Cross Creek and Morris Bridge there is a Publix plaza and Shell convenience store.
You must be comfortable in a minimally maintained wilderness environment. You are expected to know how to be properly and safely outfitted for such a hike.
Please ask if you have any uncertainty...there are no stupid questions.
Lunch after TBD if a few are interested.
