Hey there, Tenoroc is an interesting place to hike. Tenoroc is built on reclaimed phosphate mine land which offers unusually hilly terrain for central Florida, with elevation changes from spoil mounds, plus varied landscapes like lakes, restored habitats, and wooded areas, creating a more rugged and diverse experience than typical flat Florida trails. here's are shooting ranges, several lakes for fishing and kayaking, and several connected forested trails. There are also shooting ranges and several lakes for fishing and kayaking. The impact is sometimes hearing guns shots but we're safe and out of the way, and finding us can be difficult if you don't follow the directions :). We will meet at the Picnic Lake trailhead (marker 1).
- When you arrive at the park, pay $3 at the Welcome Center (they prefer exact change). Bathrooms can be found at the Welcome Center and the trail head, etc. The Welcome Center is on Tenoroc Mine Road and you are NOT parking here.
- Directions to Picnic Lake - drive east on Tenoroc Mine Road, staying left at the fork. Continue, following the signs to Picnic Lake. It's a left to the Picnic Lake pavilion, parking, and trailhead. At 8am, I'll stake an orange Suncoast Outdoors sign on the left you need to take.
- The park map (no markers) is here for your convenience. https://myfwc.com/media/28692/tenoroc-map.pdf.
- Plan to arrive at the park by 8am so you can find us. We are hiking at 830 sharp.
Here's the hike:
