Hello peeps, let's give Colt Creek State Park a little LOVE. The grassy partially-shaded trails in this park are wide, well maintained, and peaceful. We may see otters, deer, and red-shouldered hawks if we are lucky. There may be some wet places if there is rain prior to this event. Note, I am unable to do prehikes so please be prepared for anything.

The park gates open at 8am. There are bathrooms and water at the ranger station and also at Mack Lake. There is also a bathroom near the south parking lot but it is not always open. The map uploaded to photos shows the parking lot with the letter P.

We will meet in the south parking lot at 830am and begin hiking at 840am sharp. Please give yourself enough time to pay at the entrance (there may be a line up) and to find us in the south parking lot (the drive from the ranger station to the south lot is about 5 minutes). There is a $4 fee per car to enter the park.

The hike will start from the parking lot. First we will make our way over to marker 50 and hike the loop going counter clockwise to marker 75. Then we'll continue to the orange trail (flatwoods) and do markers 10, 11, 6 and 7 which brings us back to the south parking lot.

This is a rain or shine event unless there's a good chance of lightning on that day. We will average 2.25 miles per hour (which includes a snack break). To join this hike, you must be able to complete 7 miles in the time allotted and you must have experience hiking in the heat.

You will need at least 2 liters of water, snacks, bug spray, sunscreen, a hat, hikers, and anything else you deem necessary for your comfort. If it's a hot day (80+ degrees, bring an extra liter of water). There are no benches so you may want to bring a ground cloth to sit on during the snack break.

My number on the day of the hike is 813-713-2492.
