KAYAK/SUP: Shell Creek Meander (Punta Gorda)

ARRIVAL: Please arrive no later than 8:30 am for a launch between 8:45 - 9:00 am!

DESCRIPTION: Hathaway Park has picnic tables, rest rooms (portable), a boat ramp and a separate Kayak Launch with close drop off/parking.

As we paddle upstream (east) from our launch site, the Creek twists and turns and reveals new vistas at every turn. Heading west from Hathaway Park we can paddle towards the dam (5 miles) where Shell Creek meets the Peace River. Live oaks decorated with Spanish Moss arch over the Creek. Gnarly Cypress Trees poke out of the water and line the shores. Turtles sun on fallen logs and an occasional shy alligator can be seen sunning on the banks.

NO SHUTTLE: We will paddle upstream river for 3+ miles before turning around and then a downstream paddle (from Hathaway Park) for 1.5 miles before paddling back, a total of 8+ miles. Prevailing wind and currents will dictate our direction of paddle.

DON'T FORGET: PFD and whistle (both mandatory), water, bug spray, sunscreen, bilge pump, paddle float, paddle leash, spray skirt, etc.
ONLY members allowed on this paddle. No guests, pets, +1's or spouses.

UPON ARRIVAL! If you have not yet purchased SP&P decals, sign a "Participant Liability Waiver" BEFORE getting on the water.

IMPORTANT: Approximately 5 minutes before launch time we will hold a MANDATORY FOR ALL pre-paddle guidelines/safety briefing. Please do not get into your kayaks until AFTER the safety briefing is over.

Due to the length of this paddle (8+ miles) it is for intermediate/experienced paddlers only.

UPDATE: SunCoast Pedal & Paddle (SP&P) decals are available for purchase prior to this event. The cost is $3 (please help out with Exact change). Display the SP&P decal on your kayak and you will not have to sign the liability waiver on EACH trip you attend (instead you will sign an annual waiver when you purchase the decals).

CANCELLATION POLICY: Since the demand to attend our paddling events is high, we request that if your plans change and you won't be attending, that you remove your name from the "attendee list" as soon as possible! If you do not remove yourself from the list of attendees WITHIN 24 HOURS of the event, you will be marked as a "No Show". If you accumulate THREE "No Shows" you will be dropped from the group!
