KAYAK: Deep Water Self-Rescue w/3 Mi. Paddle
Details
Question: Would you know what to do if you were to fall out of your kayak in deep water and you were ALL ALONE? Accidents do happen, and you should be prepared with a well-rehearsed and executed self-rescue.
This self-rescue skills set is designed for you to SELF-RESCUE on the kayak that you commonly paddle, whether it is a sit-on-top, a sea kayak, a recreational kayak, an open cockpit, or a surf-ski.
This session is for all paddlers who are not familiar with self-rescue in their OWN kayak. It is meant to get you acquainted with the technique(s) that you will need to execute a self-rescue in deep water. It will be SPECIFIC to the kayak that you bring to the session.
We will be practicing the "cowboy scramble,” which is the most common and one of the easiest techniques of SELF-RESCUE to execute.
This self-rescue session is limited to 10 paddlers. Due to the limited number of spaces, please sign up ONLY if you are sure that you will be attending.
After approximately 1.5 hours of self-rescue instruction, we will paddle across the Intracoastal to the fishing village of Cortez. The distance of the paddle (after the instruction) is approximately 3 miles.
The 3-mile paddle is EXCLUSIVELY for those attending the self-rescue clinic.
Make sure you go to the NORTH Coquina Boat Ramp at 1465 Gulf Dr. S. (NOT the SOUTH Coquina Boat Ramp near the Longboat Key Bridge).
CANCELLATION: If your plans change and you won't be attending, please remove your name from the "attendee list" as soon as possible.
This session is for Suncoast Pedal & Paddle members exclusively.
No guests, pets, +1's or spouses allowed on this trip.
Upon Arrival: Please sign in on the "Participant Liability Waiver" (unless you have previously signed an annual waiver).
Don't forget to bring: PFD and whistle (both required by law), ***a bailing/bilge pump or bucket ***and (optional) water, bug spray, itch relief, sunscreen, water shoes, snacks, paddle float, paddle leash, etc.
