Building database-backed iOS apps with Realm

Details

• What we'll do
Tampa iOS Meetup is back, and that means it’s time to build more apps! We’ll kick off 2018 by looking at something that we’ve never covered before at this meetup: Realm, the cross-platform mobile database and object management system. Realm makes it easy to bake hot database goodness into your apps so that they can store, search for, and retrieve data. Realm is used by thousands of apps on both iOS and Android accounting for over a billion installs, and the developer edition is free-as-in-beer.

In this session, we’ll look at installing Realm and then using it to build a simple database application that lets the user enter some data, save it to the database, search for data in the database, and retrieve that data. Saving and retrieving information to a database is what a lot of apps do, so if this sort of thing is new to you, you’ll want to catch this meetup!

• What to bring
This meetup will be a “code along with me” exercise. That means you’ll need to bring a Mac laptop with Xcode 9 installed. You’ll probably also want to bring an iOS device along, although this exercise should run just fine in the Simulator.

• Important to know
Nobody learns well on an empty stomach, so we’ll provide pizza, soft drinks, and water, courtesy of my employer, our venue-provider and sponsor: Sourcetoad!
