Dick and Doris Goodwin, who were married for 42 years, were both intimately involved in both the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. the book is based on 300 boxes of letters, diaries, documents and memorabilia that Dick saved for more than 50 years. The project gave Dick's last year's renewed purpose and determination. It gave Doris the opportunity to connect and reconnect with participants and witnesses of pivotal moments of the 1960s.
