Sunday Assembly San Diego is an inclusive, non-religious community that meets to hear thoughtful talks, connect for service projects, sing songs, and generally celebrate life (with snacks). Assemblies are free to attend, and everyone is welcome. AND!! Free child care for ages 1.5 and up is available at every Assembly.

April's assembly speaker:
Persuasive Artificial Intelligence
Much of the language we’re now exposed to online is produced by Large Language Models, a form of generative artificial intelligence. These models can be used to persuade people for prosocial purposes, like to spread scientifically valid messages about public health or climate change. They can also be used for self-enrichment, propaganda, or crime. UC San Diego cognitive scientist Benjamin Bergen will discuss recent research on persuasion by Large Language Models. How effective are they at persuading humans of things that are or are not true? What makes them more or less effective? How likely are Large Language Models to spontaneously deceive humans when it’s in the models’ best interest? And can we inoculate people against artificial misinformation?
