SAA Presents: The Power of Love

Love brings us together. Love tells us who we are. Love Heals.

Our speaker this month is Greg Loughlin from Men Stopping Violence, a 37- year-old organization that focuses on ending gender-based violence by educating and organizing men in a call to action to be a part of the solution. Through their partnership with men, they are building knowledge on the issue, continuously building an understanding of the subject as it continues to evolve, lead critical societal conversations and create change agents of the participants in their program.

"Nothing about addressing the issue of gender-based violence should be passive. This is why we teach, we train, we write. This is why our work revolves around the voices and experiences that women have. We are emphatic about creating safer communities for women and girls. We are committed to being an active voice in this cause, as we have been for the past 37 years."

Greg Loughlin is Director of Community Engagement at Men Stopping Violence. He is trainer, facilitator and writer with 18 years’ experience in engaging men to end male violence against women. He previously served as Executive Director of the Georgia Commission on Family Violence.

Assemblies

Come early, around 5:00PM, to meet and chat with fellow assemblers.

Alongside our main speaker, assemblies are lively events with thoughtful musings on the theme, live music from our band, members sharing their experiences, and interaction with fellow assemblers! The assembly lasts around 75 minutes.

Assemblies, and the events around them, are open to the public and free to attend!

What To Bring

After the assembly, around 7:00 PM, we have our potluck! Share your favorite dish with dozens of others and enjoy what others have made! (Tell us what you're bringing later in the comments.) If you aren't a cook, feel free to bring something store-bought or make a donation instead. Everyone is welcome regardless.

Accommodations and Location

We'll be meeting at First Existentialist Congregation at 470 Candler Park Drive. Parking is plentiful along the street. The venue is wheelchair accessible via a ramp and has a bathroom in the foyer.

Children are welcome at our assemblies, but if requested with sufficient lead time we're happy to provide childcare in the pre-school area in the bottom floor. Let us know!
