Rumi's Summer Meditation and Zikr Circle

Details

You are invited to our second open, inclusive quarterly meditation circle sharing celebratory practices which come down directly to us from Rumi himself. In the Spring session we focussed on stillness and inner intention. In this Summer session we will explore outward expression - rhythm, sound and movement, including if time permits some exploration of the practice of "whirling".

For hundreds of years in the Ottoman Turkish sufi houses in Rumi's tradition, the dervishes gathered outside in the courtyard under the sun each morning and recited Arabic 'Divine Names' together, before entering silent meditation. The practice was believed to bring inner peace, healing and spiritual growth, and most of all a connection to the Divine Reality.

We are offering a totally open, inclusive practice quarterly, linking to the turning of the seasons and the Earth herself, as it came down to us from the last of the old teachers of Rumi's tradition in Konya.

The outer form of the practice is Islamic, but its heart is simply love. Anyone from any background is fully welcome.

The sessions will always be free of charge. You are invited to make a donation, totally at your own discretion, towards the cost of room hire.

Come, come, whoever you are!

"Nobody can stop time; we must accept that. The universe turns and the days fall, one after the other, and they turn, too. We don’t feel that there is enough time to accomplish all of the things that we want to accomplish, but we must benefit from all the time that we do have and make that time very valuable... enjoy every moment. Make the most of each moment in each day. If you are happy, if you had a happy and good day, then you lived that day fully" ~ Süleyman Hayati Dede, r.a.
