Join us for the penultimate stage of our Promenade Verte Summer Challenge where we walk through a landscape suspended between two temporalities: the slow time of the rural past, and the nervous edge of metropolitan expansion. Here, Brussels does not end with a wall, but rather fades, dissolves - into wetlands, hollow paths, garden suburbs, and the last working fields.
From the wetlands of Neerpede to the panoramic views of the Scheutbos, this is one of the most diverse and scenic segments of the whole loop. Expect a mix of wild paths, historic windmills, and surprisingly peaceful neighborhoods
The Pede Valley, once drawn by Bruegel, remains strangely untouched. Its winding hedgerows, pollarded willows, and soggy pastures resist the city's appetite. Yet above it all, the Ring road hums, a modern frontier, always pressing in.
We pass through:
- Neerpede’s bocage fields, marshes, and working farms
- The Scheutbos, a rare semi-natural zone with a panoramic view of the capital
- The Bon Air and Moortebeek garden cities - postwar dreams of urban escape
- Galloway cattle, grazing not for production, but for ecological management
- A patchwork of green space, shaped not by preservation, but by planning failures and historical accidents
We finish at Kasterlinden Herberg, a local tavern, a quiet anchor at the city’s vanishing edge.

This is not just a nature walk. It is a passage through the boundaries of Brussels, through spaces that persist not because they were protected, but because they were forgotten.
