Brussels Heritage Days: Discover Art Deco & Faith

Details

This Saturday, we dive into Brussels’ Art Deco Heritage, exploring how architecture, faith, and industry shaped the city after the First World War.

Program

🔹 Morning – Schaerbeek
We begin at Seulen House (British International School of Brussels), a 1930s mansion blending Beaux-Arts and Art Deco. Inside, stained glass skylights and elegant floral motifs reveal the optimism of the interwar years.

🔹 Midday – Koekelberg
Next, we head to the monumental Basilica of the Sacred Heart, a manifesto of religious Art Deco and one of the world’s largest churches. Its vast volumes, golden terracotta walls, and modern stained glass recall Belgium’s ambition between the wars.

🔹 Afternoon – City Centre
At 14:30, we join a guided Art Deco walking tour (in English) through the historic centre, from the Bourse to Place Rogier. Discover cinemas, hotels, dance halls, and the elegant façades of architects like Victor Horta, Michel Polak, and Léon Govaerts.
