🌌 La Nuit de l’Obscurité – Rouge Cloître 🌌

Each autumn, Belgium celebrates La Nuit de l’Obscurité, a moment to rediscover the night sky and reflect on the impact of light pollution on our cities, our rhythms, and our imagination.

This year, Sunday Vacations invites you to join us at Rouge Cloître, the former priory nestled on the edge of the Sonian Forest in Auderghem. Once a place of silence and retreat, it becomes for one night a space to reconnect with darkness, stars, and community.

✨ Program

  • 17:00 – 19:00: Arrival, evening stroll around the ponds and forest paths.
  • 19:00 – 20:00: Talks & animations about night ecology and the cultural meaning of darkness.
  • 20:00 – 23:30: Stargazing with telescopes, guided observations, and convivial exchanges.

💡 Practical info

  • Meeting point: Rouge Cloître Abbey entrance (Auderghem).
  • Public transport: Metro 5 to Herrmann-Debroux + short bus/walk.
  • Bring warm clothes and, if possible, a red-light torch (to protect night vision).
  • Participation is free; food & drinks may be available on site.
  • Most of the talks will be in French, but everyone is welcome—the night sky speaks a universal language, and we’ll enjoy time together as a group.

This is not just about astronomy—it’s about remembering that darkness is part of our heritage, once shaping human rhythms, fears, and myths before being pushed aside by urban neon and global capital’s 24h cycle. For one night, let’s switch off the lights and rediscover what the night has to offer.
