### Escape Brussels for a wild day in the Ardennes — rugged ridges, deep forests, lake views and good people.

Join Sunday Vacations for one of Belgium’s most adventurous hiking experiences.

We’ll leave Brussels together and head deep into the Ourthe Valley for a challenging hike combining the dramatic Rocher du Hérou with the winding trails around Lac de Nisramont.

Expect steep climbs, exposed rocky terrain, hands-on scrambling, forest trails and approximately 550 m of elevation gain — followed by an optional well-earned drink together after the hike.

Come solo or with friends. Solo joiners are very welcome.

## 🚗 Plan / Itinerary

### Morning — Brussels departure

We’ll meet in Brussels and travel together to the Ardennes.

🚗 Carpooling is necessary for this experience.

We’ll coordinate available cars, drivers and passenger places through the Sunday Vacations WhatsApp group before the event.

Exact Brussels meeting point, departure time, car allocation and practical updates will be communicated there.

### Arrival — Barrage de Nisramont

Once everyone has arrived, we’ll have a short introduction and equipment check before starting the hike.

### The hike 🥾

Approximately:

15 km
550 m D+
4.5–5.5 hours including breaks
Strenuous / technical difficulty

We’ll tackle the Hérou area, technical rocky sections and the trails surrounding Lac de Nisramont, with a packed-lunch break along the way.

### After the hike 🍻

After returning to the dam, those who wish can join us for a relaxed local Ardennes beer, soft drink or coffee.

Then we’ll organise ourselves into the same carpools for the return journey to Brussels.

## 📍 Meeting Point & Transport

### 🚩 Departure: Brussels

Exact meeting point and departure time will be shared in the WhatsApp group.

The hiking trail itself starts near:

Barrage de Nisramont
6983 La Roche-en-Ardenne, Belgium

### 🚗 Carpooling

Because public transport access to the trailhead is limited, this event relies on community carpooling from Brussels.

When you RSVP, please indicate whether you:

🚘 Can drive and offer passenger seats, or
🙋 Need a seat in a car

We will do our best to coordinate available places, but a passenger seat cannot be guaranteed until a driver has confirmed it.

Drivers remain responsible for their own vehicles, insurance and compliance with applicable road rules.

Any agreed sharing of fuel, parking or other driving expenses is arranged directly between the people travelling in that vehicle.

### 📱 WhatsApp Group — Required

After RSVP, please join the event WhatsApp group.

This is important because we will use WhatsApp to coordinate:

• Brussels departure details
• Carpool drivers and passengers
• Final meeting point and timing
• Weather and trail updates
• Last-minute changes
• Return arrangements

⚠️ If you do not join the WhatsApp group, we cannot reliably allocate you to a car or ensure you receive important event updates.

The WhatsApp link/details will be provided to registered participants.

## 💶 Price / Contribution

Sunday Vacations community contribution: 5€

Transport is not included in the event contribution.

Carpooling is coordinated between community members. Any contribution towards fuel, parking or other vehicle expenses should be agreed directly with your driver.

Food, drinks and other personal purchases are also paid individually.

VAT not applicable – small business exemption scheme, Article 56bis Belgian VAT Code.

## ⚠️ Important Notes

### 🚗 Your RSVP does not automatically guarantee transport

Please do not assume that clicking RSVP means a car seat has been reserved.

Carpool places depend on the number of volunteer drivers and seats available.

Join the WhatsApp group as soon as possible after registering so we can coordinate transport.

If you have a car and are happy to drive, offering even 2–3 passenger places can make a big difference and helps more people join the experience. 💛

### ⛰️ Technical difficulty

This is not a beginner hike.

Participants should have good fitness, appropriate hiking footwear and confidence on steep and uneven terrain.

Some sections may involve scrambling and exposed terrain. Fixed chains or ropes encountered along the route are aids and should not be interpreted as eliminating the risks associated with the terrain.

### 🌧️ Weather

Weather can significantly change the difficulty of this route.

The volunteer organiser may alter the route, use a bypass, avoid technical sections, shorten the hike or postpone/cancel the activity when conditions make the planned route unsuitable.

## ⚖️ Legal & Transport Disclaimer

Sunday Vacations is a community initiative operated by UJAMAA ASBL. We facilitate community experiences and are not acting as a travel agency, professional transport provider or professional mountain-guiding service.

Carpooling is a voluntary arrangement between individual participants. Sunday Vacations / UJAMAA ASBL helps community members connect and coordinate but does not provide the vehicles or operate a passenger transport service.

Drivers are responsible for their vehicle, driving, legally required insurance and compliance with applicable road regulations. Passengers and drivers should agree directly on any sharing of fuel, parking or other journey-related expenses.

Participation in hiking and outdoor activities involves inherent risks, including slips, falls, changing weather, uneven terrain and exposed sections. Participants remain responsible for assessing their own fitness, equipment, experience and ability to participate safely.

Any services supplied by independent third parties remain subject to those providers' own terms and responsibility unless expressly stated otherwise.

Activities are organised by volunteers and covered under the COCOF volunteer insurance framework.

## 🌲 Ready to Escape Brussels?

One morning in Brussels.

A few hours later: forest trails, slate ridges, the Ourthe below us and 15 km of Ardennes adventure ahead.

And somewhere between the first climb and the post-hike drink, a group of strangers starts feeling a little less like strangers.
