ABOUT THE HIKE: The hike starts at the trailhead for the Harding Truck Trail across from the Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary on Modjeska Canyon Road. We will follow the trail up to Laurel Springs, a mini retreat nestled under a cathedral like canopy of aromatic California bay trees. The Springs are located about 50 vertical feet down a steep narrow pathway - the perfect place for a well deserved rest stop. We will also ascend another mile to the abandoned heliport and WWII Bunker up the trail. We descend the same route back the truck trail to the Tucker Wildlife parking area so we can car pool back to the parking area at Santiago Canyon/Modjeska Canyon roads. The round trip distance is approximately 11 miles plus, with an elevation gain/loss of approximately 2,300 feet. With recent rains, the Harding Trail and its hiking visitors will be celebrating some green growth and water. This is a dog friendly trail and hike.

DIRECTIONS: From Interstate 5, take the El Toro Road exit in Lake Forest. Head North up El Toro Road towards the mountains. At Cook's Corner, El Toro Road turns into Santiago Canyon Road. Three miles past Cook's, turn right on Modjeska Canyon Road. Park in the gravel spot at the junction of the two roads. We will car pool back to Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary as there is limited parking at the Sanctuary. This is critically important! Please do not drive directly to Tuckers. We must car pool! As we car pool, we will remain on Modjeska Canyon Road, passing the Modjeska Fire Station and continuing until arriving at the Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary. The trail head is across the road from the paved designated parking area.
