ABOUT THE HIKE:

This interpretive meditation hike is a great way to be in the present, become familiar with practicing meditation, and learn about plants, birds, and anything else along the trail.

“In every walk with nature one receives far more than [one] seeks.” – John Muir

This is a slow-paced hike (not a cardio hike) among gorgeous oak woodland and sycamore canopies. We will begin with a brief introduction and moment to connect to the natural environment; the hike offers moving mindfulness while pausing to discover native plants and other wonders nature brings along the trails. The last thirty minutes of the hike will close with a seated meditation.
Starting the hike inside the west side of O’Neill Park, we will head out into the Arroyo Trabuco trail heading south in the same direction as Trabuco Creek. This is an out and back trail route, approx. 4 miles total.

WHERE TO MEET: Meet in the big parking lot at Oak Grove Day Use between the Visitor’s Center and large restroom building.

WHAT TO BRING: Phone/camera, sturdy trail shoes/boots, water, hat, layered clothing, and optional - snacks, and hiking poles, blanket to sit on for meditation - if you choose.
Chair or yoga mat/blanket for meditation at end.

FEE: Entrance fee is $5 per vehicle or OC Parks annual passes.

HIKE DIFFICULTY AND HAZARDS: This is a wilderness area hike – mostly flat but beginner to advanced beginner due to some possibly wet creek crossings and uneven areas. Beware of poison oak, muddy and rocky trails, ticks, rattlesnakes, mountain lions and other wilderness trail hazards.

RAIN/ALTERNATE PLANS: If O’Neill Park trails are closed, we will meet at an alternate trailhead nearby and hike an alternate route in Arroyo Trabuco.

ABOUT THE HIKE LOCATION: O'Neil Regional Park is a major regional park and greenway in eastern Orange County, California, United States, located along Trabuco Creek and Live Oak Canyon. The park encompasses 4,500 acres of canyon and riparian zone habitat, and includes campgrounds and trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding.
