About the walk: We will meet at the Oasis Center parking lot (located on the center’s property) and proceed through the charming streets of Corona Del Mar (including a stroll along Ocean Blvd with its beautiful views of the water). This track is mostly flat with a few sets of optional stairs down at the beach. There will be one bio break about a mile into the walk. The return to our starting part point will result in a roughly 4-5 mile trek.

Origins of Boxing Day
By Samuel Oyondi
Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated on the day after Christmas Day . It originated in the United Kingdom, and is celebrated in a number of countries that previously formed part of the British Empire . Boxing Day is on 26 December, although the attached bank holiday or public holiday may take place either on that day or two days later

There are competing theories for the origins of the term, “Boxing Day” The Oxford English Dictionary gives the earliest attestations from Britain in the 1830s, defining it as “the first week-day after Christmas-day, observed as a holiday on which post-men, errand-boys, and servants of various kinds expect to receive a Christmas-box”.

In Britain, it was a custom for tradespeople to collect “Christmas boxes” of money or presents on the first weekday after Christmas as thanks for good service throughout the year. Since they would have to wait on their masters on Christmas Day, the servants would the next day visit their families. The employers would give each servant a box to take home containing gifts, bonuses, and sometimes leftover food.
