This is a hike I used to lead when I lived in OC, before moving to Oceanside. We always started out on Shea Trail, with a few options. We can climb up a steep hill (it might still be part of Shea), and then descend and head back.
A second option is Shea to Peppertree where we see a long trail of Painted rocks (hopefully they are still there.)
A third option is Shea Trail, then walk into Los Rios Historic District, where we can walk around, get a coffee or pastry, then make the climb back. I will either make a decision by Sunday, or take a vote on Sunday morning to see what route is favored by the attendees.

The hike will take somewhere between 2 - 3 hours, depending on which one we do.
This is not an easy hike. It would probably be considered moderate. If you want to read details, please go to All Trails.com.

There is not a lot of shade, so please bring plenty of water, a sun hat. Hiking poles are not necessary, but certainly helpful.

The hike is dog friendly, but snakes are likely out due to the weather.
We will meet on the patio outside of Starbucks by the umbrellas and then walk across the street to begin the hike.
Parking is free at the shopping center where Starbucks is.

For those interested, there are plenty of eating places at the shopping center for after the hike.

Look for an Albertsons, McDonalds and Starbucks in the shopping center. I usually put the address of 30211 Golden Lantern in my GPS.

Please call or text Marla at (949) 295-1554 with any questions.
