Sunshine Social Hike 12/25: Catalina State Park 😁☀️🎄

Let’s enjoy a long Christmas social hike at Catalina State Park by hiking parts of the Sutherland Trail! It’s a beautiful and dog-friendly out and back, we will work up an appetite and be home before noon for family time or for those coming to our home for the dinner, some Misfit Sunshine Time! If you are interested in joining our Island of Misfits Christmas potluck, please find the Potluck Facebook post in the group page and let us know!

We will be hiking the Sutherland Trail for 3 miles out and 3 miles back, for a total of 6 miles and 800 feet of elevation gain. It should take us two hours and 45 minutes with time for pictures, breaks and introductions. If anyone wants to cut it shorter, that works, there are still plenty of awesome views in the first couple miles of the out and back. (The length makes this a “social hike plus”, not quite enough elevation to be a true adventure hike but definitely a longer one as far as social hikes go)

Catalina State Park charges a fee unless you have a pass, with payment options onsite or through their app.

We will convene at the trailhead at 7:45am and start introductions a few minutes before 8. Finishing up just before 11, we should have plenty of time to spend with family the rest of the day (and with a hike appetite 🙂)

Please bring water and sunscreen, hiking poles are not necessary but could be useful for walking in the wash. The weather forecast right now calls for 50° at the start and 59° by the time we finish. Perfect hiking weather, layers are recommended!
