Sunshine Adventure Hike 4/2: Safford Peak 🥾☀️

Let’s enjoy a challenging midweek climb up Sombrero! We will be hiking the Safford Peak via North Scenic Drive Trail.

This trail is short and steep with some amazing views and lots of scrambling near the top. We did this as an adventure hike back in December, it was a fun climb following the blue rectangles to guide you along the way. It’s a 3.5 mile out and back with 1500 feet of elevation gain, a decent incline for sure.

The first half mile is relaxed and then it’s a mile of steady incline. After dropping down the backside for a bit, it’s a fun scramble to the top for some gorgeous views.

We will convene at the trailhead at 7:50am for introductions and begin our hike at 8:00am. Last time it took us 3 hours and 15 minutes, I’m thinking we will be back to the car around 11:30am at the latest.

Please bring lots of water and sunscreen, hiking poles will be very useful with incline stretches on the way up and all the way down. The weather forecast right now calls for 49 degrees at the start and 57 degrees by the time we finish, perfect hiking weather.

Given the climb of this trail, please make sure you are prepared for this hike, physically and provision-wise.
